Find and Use Skills from the Library
Browse the Skills library, start a chat that follows a skill, call a skill with / or the + menu, and let Copilot use a skill on its own when your message fits.
A skill is a step-by-step procedure for a piece of GRC work, such as a first gap assessment, a risk register or a vendor review. When a chat follows a skill, Copilot asks for the right inputs, works through the steps and gives you a draft to review.
The Skills library collects these procedures in one place. You can browse it, read what each skill gives you, and start a chat that follows one.
Skills draft work for you to review and sign. A skill never marks a control effective.
Open the library
In the sidebar, click Skills. You can also click Customize, then Skills.
The Skills page has two tabs:
- Library: the skills ready for you to use. It opens first.
- Yours: the custom skills you wrote and the skills your team shared with you. They work as before. See Manage Skills from the Skills Page.
Find a skill
- Search: type a task, for example "gap assessment" or "vendor review".
- Categories: pick a category such as Risk, Evidence or Privacy. All shows everything.
- Framework: choose one or more frameworks to see only the skills that apply to them.
On a phone, tap Filters to choose a category and a framework. If nothing matches, click Clear filters to start again.
Click a skill to open its details:
- What you get: the drafts and tables the skill produces.
- What it needs from you: the documents and facts to have at hand.
- Good to know: what the skill does and does not do.
- Frameworks: the frameworks the skill relates to.
Use a skill in chat
Some skills are available in chat. For those, you have three ways to start:
- From the library: click Use in chat on the skill. A new chat opens, set to follow that skill.
- Type
/in the chat box: a list of skills appears. Keep typing to filter it, then press Enter or click a skill. A/on its own lists every skill by category. - The + menu: click + next to the chat box, then Use a skill, and pick one from the same list.
The label Skill: (name) then shows above the chat box. The skill applies to every answer in this chat until you remove it. To remove it, click the × on the label. You can pick another skill at any time.
Answers that followed the skill you chose show Skill: (name) (chosen).
If a workspace has its own skill list, skills that are off in that workspace appear greyed out with Off in this workspace's skills. See Choose skills for one workspace.
Run a skill in your agent
Other skills are not available in chat yet. Their details show Run in your agent. This opens the skill on grcskills.com, where you can add it to your coding agent and run it there.
The list of skills you can use in chat grows over time.
Let Copilot use a skill on its own
On a skill you can use in chat, turn on Use automatically when it fits. Copilot then uses that skill on its own when your message matches it, without you picking it first.
You can turn this off at any time from the same switch.
Team conversations
Skills are off in team conversations, so the skill label does not appear there and you cannot pick a skill in them. Skills work as usual in your own chats.
Where the skills come from
Library skills come from grcskills, an open library of GRC procedures published under the MIT licence. Each one shows: From the open grcskills library (MIT). Adapted for chat. A skill marked Copilot only exists only in ISMS Copilot.
